The free online input device tester

Finders Keypress is a fast, private, browser-based keyboard tester for any USB or Bluetooth keyboard. Press a key or scroll and it instantly shows the key code, modifiers, inter-key latency and rollover as live charts, with nothing to install and nothing sent to a server.

Supported keyboards

Works with essentially any keyboard your browser can see:

  • Mechanical, optical, magnetic and membrane keyboards
  • Compact, TKL, full-size and ortholinear layouts
  • Wired USB and wireless Bluetooth boards
  • Keyboards with a scroll wheel or volume control

How to test your keyboard

  1. Open finderskeypress.com and click the page so it has focus.
  2. Press keys and watch the big readout and the activity chart respond.
  3. Scroll to log scroll telemetry.
  4. Switch to Advanced for frequency, latency and rollover diagnostics.
  5. Export your session as JSON or CSV for a bug report.

What it measures

  • Key code & key value: the exact event.code and event.key.
  • Modifiers: Ctrl, Shift, Alt and Meta state per event.
  • Latency: milliseconds between keydowns, charted over time.
  • Rollover (NKRO): hold many keys to confirm they all register.
  • Scroll: direction and cumulative travel.

Frequently asked questions

Is Finders Keypress free?

Yes, completely free, with no account, no ads and no upsell.

Which keyboards does it work with?

Any standard USB or Bluetooth keyboard: mechanical, optical, magnetic or membrane. The browser receives standard key events, so every key is tested the same way. It's ideal for checking a new board, verifying remaps, or confirming every key registers.

Can I test every key, including media keys and the scroll wheel?

Yes. Every keydown and keyup is logged with its key code and modifiers, and a scroll wheel or volume control is captured with direction and a cumulative-rotation chart. On a phone, drag the on-screen scroll wheel.

Is my data private?

Completely. Everything runs locally in your browser, with no cookies, no analytics, no network calls. Captured events stay in memory until you clear or refresh.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. Connect a Bluetooth or USB keyboard to capture real events, or use the built-in virtual keyboard and scroll wheel to test by touch.
